Musical Monday

Okay, big disclaimer on this Musical Monday: I am ashamed to have watched a marathon of the Hills; I am very depressed to have enjoyed it.

Maybe I've been worn down by the awfulness that is this summer's tv season, but I watched my first episode of the show last night and could not stop. It's such a horrible, horrible show. Yet so freakin awesome. I get to watch the "drama" unfold in the lives of the douchebags I see at LA bars, without having to be friends with them. Seriously, why are the guys on these shows such douches?? But I suppose the hot girls help. That Whitney girl at Teen Vogue actually seems quite pleasant.

Another show I've grown to love: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Before this season, I had mixed opinions. Mostly "kinda amusing", but there have been some awesome high points: "Underage Drinking: A National Concern" and "Charlie Wants an Abortion". However, Season Two's been non-stop HEE-larious and has gotten better with every episode. This past week's ep, "Hundred Dollar Baby", was the funniest one yet. My favorite part about the show is Charlie Day, he steals every scene. If they run out of material, they could just have him read lines in a high-pitched voice and I'd watch every week.

Lastly, Entourage fell off the rails for a bit there with the Dom episodes. One of the worst guest characters ever introduced.. on par with Oliver and Johnny on the OC. But the show got back on track with the past two eps. I think I previously posted an outdated version of "Keep Me In Your Mind" by the Koreans. I apologize.. I'd last seen them at CMJ '03 and hadn't really kept up to date on their going-ons. The new version sounds way better, you can find it below along with the other tunes:

Entourage - "Dominated"
"Feel Good Inc." - Gorillaz
"Banquet" - Bloc Party

Entourage - "Guys and Doll"
"Cobrastyle" - Teddybears Stockholm feat. Mad Cobra

Entourage - "Crash and Burn"
"Keep Me In Your Mind" - the Koreans

the Hills - "Boyfriends and Work Don't Mix"
"Loose Ends" - Imogen Heap
"Anysound" - the Vines

the Hills - "Jason's Birthday"
"The Great Escape" - We Are Scientists
"The Adventure" - Angels & Airwaves

the Hills - "Lauren and Jason, Take 2"
"Secret Heart" - Feist, originally by Ron Sexsmith

the Hills - "An Unexpected Call"
"Hide Another Mistake" - the 88
"Are You Gonna Kiss Or Wave Goodbye?" - Spouse
"Over My Head (Cable Car)" - The Fray

the Hills - "A Change of Plans"
"Shut Your Eyes" - Shout Out Louds
"California" - Rufus Wainwright

the Hills - "New City, New Drama"
"Juicy" - Better Than Ezra
"Banquet" - Bloc Party
"Feels Just Like It Should" - Jamiroquai

I've been a fan of It's Always Sunny from the start- I actually think I liked the first season better than this one, but it's still one of the best comedies to come out of TV in a long long while. The cast is just fantastic. Agreed that Charlie Day is incredible, but in my opinion Kaitlin Olson is the real unsung hero of this cast. She's a gorgeous skinny blonde who also is a brilliant actress/comedian and let's them make her look horrible (crackhead and steroid episodes) for the sake of comedy. I'm glad FX finally decided to promote the shit out of this show.

Huh, being a Canadian, it's a shame I'm sheltered from the good tv that's on the cable channels in the US..

I looked up Kaitlin Olson per the above poster's mention, and I noticed she was on the "Sketch Show" -- she was hilarious in that! Along with Mary Lynn from 24. Now I'll definitely try to find DVD copies of it, seeing that I adore the other shows covered here!

Thanks for the tunage, esp for the updated Koreans' song! As soon as Ari was driving in the car with that song queued up, I knew it sounded familiar.. I found it on sillypipedreams! Hehe

I love "The Hills", too. We can be lame together. Yay. :-) It's that perfect mix of something that you can't look away from, but are also a little nauseated by. Loves it.

Hey! You're back again! Always love your posts!!

Have you checked out "Saved" on TNT? It's really not bad, and it's got some great tunes, too. And I do love "4400." :-)

i also am addicted to the hills...but i'm pretty much addicted to anything laguna beach related...can't wait for season 3- yay brain candy! the season 3 girls look like bitchy sluts- perfect! i love how they play up how whitney is like miss perfect intern and lc is always late...whitney seems smart, but is kind of a goody goody- she's definitely stab lc in the back if it meant her own promotion...just sayin'. my favorite part is heidi cause she's just ridonkulous.

hey krissi, i haven't checked out Saved yet. I hear mixed things... for some reason I can't get into TNT's shows. I know Closer is pretty huge too... hmm I may check an ep out next week.

sam, ive never really watched laguna beach. and im afraid to. i think i may just stick with the hills.. that's pretty shameful enough right? =) but yeah, whitney's pretty hot. i hope she does some backstabbing too.. a pseudo-reality show like this about Pages would be awesome. cause God knows we've seen our share of bitches go thru the program

Seriously ... just rent Season 1 of Laguna Beach. Trust me. It's so bad it's good, and definitely better than the crap that's on TV (excluding Project Runway!) right now.

I'll be interested to hear what you think about "Saved" if you check it out. I do watch the "Closer," and I like it because it's a bit different than the rest of the detective shows (not that I don't like some of the others).

The Sci-Fi Channel has ben making some inroads with their original series I love the two Stargates and Battlestar. Eureka's fun, too. They have a couple other upcoming series that sound like they might be good, too. 4400 is pretty cool, too.

That said, I still miss my Scrubs, HIMYM, Grey's, and LOST! :-)

BTW, I emailed you "Sailed On" and the full version of the Matt Pond PA song from your last posting.

The Hills? The Hills? Why Oh Why Captain .....The Hills???

I saw a small part of one episode, but the whole premise of the Laguna Beach series and The Hills, annoys my good senses and turns my stomach...that being said...I refuse to watch anymore than I already have because I probably would get hooked!!

My summer watching is however being restricted to reality TV until GA starts up again. I watch Big Brother 7 All-Stars, Project Runway and Design Star on HGTV. I like the competition aspect....GO Evil Dr. Will!

Despite The Hills commentary :-) (do like the music) I'm always loving the post.

I'm so glad you watch the HILLS! There are always a couple of nice tunes playing while the drama "unfolds" like u said. I love Laguna Beach too.. well, I think I just really like MTV cause everytime I watch any stupid show they have, I just laugh my ass off! Heidi is the biggest moron ever and I can't believe LC's back with Jason when she knows how immature he is.

And I was just wondering if Its Always sunny in Philly is the same kind of humor as WEEDS cause I love that show!?

Anyways, this summer I'm watching too many talent shows that just suck (Canadian Idol, America's got talent, the One - that one really tanks) but I enjoy So you think you can dance and ROCK STAR is GREAT! But BB All Stars is my addiction of the summer.

hey krissi, i do agree that SCI FI Channel is doing a great job. i actually used to work there before i moved out to la... loved it there. i actually reviewed the pilot of eureka way back when here: http://sillypipedreams.blogspot.com/2006/01/in-words-of-seth-cohen.html, but haven't had a chance to watch since. how were the next few eps? and thanks for the mp3s!

raynp, i know.. i am ashamed.

jay, everyone's telling me that weeds is pretty awesome... wish i had showtime. i did enjoy so you think you can dnace and rock star last season... remember the runner up guy last year? he was great... but i haven't watched either show this season... reality tv just doesn't do it for me anymore.. unless its on VH1.

Hi Cap't,

Eureka is a great show, partly because it doesn't take itself too seriously, and I'm enjoying it. Wow! You worked at the Sci-Fi Channel? Lucky man!

They have a couple more series they're rolling out in the fall -- "The Lost Room" and "The Dresden Files." Both look promising.

Glad you got the MP3s okay. :-)

Hi Krissi,
Yeah, I actually read the script for "The Lost Room" and saw "The Dresden Files" pilot.. both pretty solid. The lead in Dresden Files is really good...

I think I may do a little fall tv preview post in the near future... what do you think?

8:14 PM
Anonymous Krissi said...

I think a fall preview is just what we all need! :-) It looks like there are some decent shows coming out, but it's hard to keep track of what's what.

I'm so excited to hear you think "Dresden Files" and "Lost Room" are good. I think one of my fave original Sci-Fi shows was "Farscape." I thought it was unique and very funny. Did you ever watch it?

I can't wait for "Scrubs" to reappear; had you heard they're doing a musical eppie? It should be a riot!

Anyhoo, I digress; please do a fall preview; it's be nice to get some buzz from you, O' Wise Cap't!
