Help Wanted.. Again!
So the last time we interviewed a writer, you guys submitted excellent questions, so I thought I'd open it up to everyone again. This time, we have the privilege of talking to JON HURWITZ, the co-writer of one of my favorite comedies, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.A lot of people tend to think that everyone in "the industry" is a douchebag. These people are absolutely correct. But every once in a while, there are exceptions, and Jon Hurwitz is definitely one of the exceptions. Ever since day one of meeting him at the backstage of Conan, he's been amazingly nice and down to earth. On top of that, he's one of the funniest writers out there. He's also introduced me to the Belgian beer, Chimay. Delicious.
Anyways, he's got an upcoming movie, The Wingman, with Christopher Walken and Rob McKittrick attached, several projects in development including The Gym Teacher for Mandate Pictures, as well as a TV deal with Fox. Yeah, he's a little too awesome. Sometimes I want to kick him in the chin.
If you have any questions you'd like to ask Jon (whether it's regarding the Harold and Kumar sequel, his Wharton degree, or his feelings on hippies and vegans, feel free to either leave a comment and/or email. The interview will happen in the next week or two... but to get you guys going, I'll give a tentative question cut-off date of this
*EDIT: Two comments? For shame people, for shame!! (thank you anon and jeb for commenting) Perhaps everyone needs to be reminded of the genius that is Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, here is my favorite scene:

can you ask him if john cho's single?? ;) hm, other than that, is neil patrick harris gonna be in the sequel?
Hey man, thanks for doing this. I loved that movie! I know Jon has a writing partner, it'd be cool if you asked him how that started up?
Hahahah! God, that movie is genius. I don't have any specific suggestions for the interview. I'm just glad you appreciate the comedic genius that is "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle."
"Yeah, I've been craving burgers, too...FUR BURGERS!"
"Uh-uh. NPH wouldn't do that."
Glorious. Well done again, Captain Oats!

P.S. The Magnetic Fields are awesome. I'm glad they made your list!! But Julia Louis-Dreyfus? You can do better, cap'n.
Here's one. Ask him to recite the most offensive responses he encountered when he first proposed the idea of a movie starring two English-speaking, Asian American guys who display no fighting skills or any special relationship with robots, raw fish, banzai gardening, or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Yea ask him about any of the racial barriers he faced when he was trying to get the movie funded and distributed?
Or what has been the response from those same people now that he's got a sequel in the works?
Ask him if there is indeed going to be a sequel and if so about release dates, storylines, and other juicy tidbits.
...Did I just say 'jucy tidbits?'
How does the real-life Harold feel about the popularity and success of the film? Has it changed his life in any way?
On his IMDB page, it says that Jon initially wanted to become an investment banker. So how did he end up going from that to writing a kickass movie?
Also, is there a particular scene in Harold & Kumar that fans cite the most? I'm partial to the "Hold On" duet, myself.
love the questions thus far!! i should be doing the interview soon.. if you have any others, keep commenting away!
I was wondering whether he always envisioned this movie with non-white actors. I could seriously see Hollywood trying to do this movie but using Seann William Scott and early Ashton Kutcher instead (which I think would have KILLED the cult status of this movie). And also, would he say that Neil Patrick Harris's success in How I Met Your Mother stems directly from this movie? Because I totally would!!
Preface- I love this frikken movie and have seen it too many times (like most of us I'm sure). But one scene REALLY bugs me and I can not believe it ever saw the light of day. This isn't a writing issue but, the damn hang glider scene. It is pitch dark one second and then --- oh look the sun is coming up!
Unless that cop car was driving through the woods and H&K were chillin on the side of a cliff for four hours, there was a HUGE error. So question - how did that pass? Did someone F up big time and film the hang gliding scenes during the day and then go back later to realize it should be night? I can not believe it wasnt reshot (or a crappy day for night job in post) It makes me cringe every time.
Regarding his business degree--how did he make that transition, from investment banker to cult-stoner-flick writer? He sort of made the opposite transition from Kumar, didn't he?
Well, I was going to take this opportunity to leave some hilarious Harold and Kumar quotes for your enjoyment, but it seems my clever little sister has beat me to most of them! This is Mary's sister, by the way...
"The police have said that they believe these drawings to be EXTREMELY accurate."
