Fudiculous Friday

Not sure what's going on lately, maybe it's me, but I'm just not feeling a lot of my favorite shows.

Veronica Mars was a bit better, but still, the only reason I keep watching this season is show loyalty, not for quality. And good Lord, I hate the new opening credits. Way to ruin a perfectly awesome song. On a positive note, it was nice to see Rider Strong.. reminded me of my Friday nights as a youngen, watching Boy Meets World while flipping through the yearbook and drawing hearts on my high school crushes. Nine years later, not much has changed.

Grey's was better too, but I dunno, the writers seem to be trying too hard? Again, maybe it's me. The Denny reveal at the end did move me though. One positive: I walk away from each episode with a determined resolve to get on the Eric Dane workout plan. Last time I almost dropped a towel was in high school... women fled, babies cried, men committed seppuku. Nine years later, not much has changed.

The only two shows I've been consistently enjoying are How I Met Your Mother and the Office. Maybe comedy's making a comeback... which would be a sweet gift from the heavens for my writing partner and I. By the way, I added some more positive news to the Story of Me. I'll be reposting updates periodically.

Oh and I've been loving Lost so far. Finally, we have episodes where stuff actually happens! Genius!

Lastly, Josh Schwartz kindly sent me (and a few other bloggers) the first four episodes of the new OC season. And I'm here to say that they are AWESOME. I will be posting a full update, with spoilers and some new OC music as well. Stay tuned!

Sorry for such a crappy Fudiculous Friday, but don't hate, celebrate. Leave a comment.

Good as always. I sort of agree with Veronica Mars, but with that loyalty, I care about the characters. And seeing Stepford Sorority Girl Veronica was cool in general, methinks.

Thanks for the music.

You saw the OC? Is it really good this year? I've heard that a few other places but I didn't quite believe it. I heard they were going to change it up. How about some details?

Lost rocks.

Some of my least favorite episodes of VM were the first few of the second season. I have to say that this season is much better than those eps so I'm willing to be patient a little longer for my mind to be ostensibly blown.

Besides Diane Ruggiero can do no wrong in my book. C'mon! "Vomit is the new mase" and "We have the faux lesbian dance"? AWESOME.

The Office was great but yeah, although the end of Grey's got to me I wasn't in love with the whole episode. I really hope they show the "McSteamy" and Callie sex, hot shit.
Thanks as always

hey anon, yeah i'm definitely excited for Lost this week... still too many questions, but at least it's entertaining again.

hi steve, seeing kristen bell in a dainty dress keeps me watching.

hi fishee, i've been trying to get into what about brian.. but it just doesn't do it for me. maybe i'll check out this season though..

hey anon, as mentioned, post is forthcoming with all the details. lost does rock indeed.

hi anon, thanks for stopping by. unfortunately, this blog did not exist when 'my best laid plans' aired... but you can get one of the songs, closer, in my post here: http://sillypipedreams.blogspot.com/2006/02/wusical-wednesday.html

hello anon, i agree.. this is better than the first few eps of last season... diane ruggiero does rock.. she's repped by the same management as my writing partner and i, so more power to her.

hi anon, how awesome is the office? loved bj's mufasa delivery...

Loving the Friday tunes! Yeah Lost does rock so far, much better than last season.

Oh and I dont know if you or any of the commenters are a sucker for Peanuts specials... but someone posted "Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" on Youtube.

Im watching it right now. Oh the memories.

Hey,

Thanks for the tunes! I hope someone can find the Kate Havnevik one.

I can't believe you're going to see The OC - I'm so jealous. But I am looking forward to the music (could you possibly also get the preview songs from the long preview on youtube, or atleast its name/artist if you can't post the actual song). And a request: when you post about it can you do a general spoiler free part (ie say if it was good or not, some vague details maybe, basically if it's worth watching this season)?

Thanks a million!

I think Veronica Mars has been seriously lacking this season too. I do not care about the stupid hair shaving. Rob Thomas hasn't really given us a reason to care has he?

I would like to reiterate with the above poster to check out What About Brian.

Thanks for the Grey's songs.

Yeah, I'm not into Veronica Mars either, and I liked the first 2 seasons, but this is just... not it. I heard that Rob Thomas was going to try and dumb it down in order to get more audience, but this is too much. And don't get me started with the hedious opening credits.

BTW, do you watch Desperate Housewives? It got so much better this season, last season was meh.

"Awesome" and "The OC", in one sentence? Color me surprised. Let me get one thing clear, so I know if we share the same opinion, what did you think of this show's last season?

THX for the songs!

Thanks for the music! I'm pretty relieved that The Office has been keeping up its bleak, edgy sort of humor - I was a little worried about how it would be after The Kiss.

I guess you're not sticking with Friday Night Lights? That's probably a good idea, it seems like its ratings don't bode well for its future.

Not snagging any tunes this week, but love your blog! I watch pretty much all the same dramas you do, and I'm only still watching all of them out of loyalty EXCEPT Veronica Mars. I personally love the way this show reinvents itself every season and am finding this smaller, simpler, more personal mystery a refreshing change of pace from the big flashy mystery of last season (which, don't get me wrong, I also loved). My roomate and I both considered this week's episode to be one of the most purely enjoyable episodes of the whole series (like, in the top 5). So many great moments (and lines). While I'm liking this season of Lost so far better than last season, I still don't trust the writers like I do with Veronica Mars. And I actually gave up on the OC early last season. But that's me. Anyway, thanks for the great blog, and The Office rules all!

The Office and How I Met Your Mother are definitely two of the most consistent shows on television. I think, honestly, that, on the whole, HIMYM has been better than The Office this season, although "Grief Counseling" may have switched the two again.

And folks, I, too, have seen the first four episodes of The O.C., and I'm here to say that they are great. He's not lying! Of course, if you really wanted to, you could click on the link that is my name and it might take you to how you can find out more about the season. Maybe. Just saying.

I would have to agree that the end of Grey's was definitly the best part of the show....it got to me, I'll admit it! The Denny storyline has always been my favorite. I'd also agree that How I Met Your Mother is one of the best & most consistent comedies on TV today...gives me something good to watch on Monday nights!

I'm glad to hear that the OC is "awesome" this season, as you say, & that they are changing things up some. I was watching it for awhile, but then they lost me last season. It's unfortunate that the OC will be on at the same time as Grey's now (& with my satellite, I can only record the channel I'm watching.) =o( I'll have to stick with Grey's!

Hey Captain Oats!

This may come as a shocker, but I've seen a total of like...TWO. Yes, TWO--LOST episodes. Last week's episode and one from last season--always the ones with Korean scenes + subs--totally random how that happened. I may have to do some catching up--cuz this show is definitely frustrating for the random viewer such as myself---quite, uh...dahp dahp hae!! lol.

Your blog is so...get ready for this, cuz some KONGLISH is about to bust out: JEH-MEE-SSUH to read!! Chook-ha-hae on the pending movie idea/mtgs!! Can't wait to hear what's to come of that. I think we all know that we can be expecting a witty and definitely good movie from ya. Keep it up!--and thanks for the Grey's norae-deul!

Hi Cap't,

Thanx for the great tunes; I'm on the lookout for "So:Lo."

The end of Grey's was amazing, 'tis true. However, I did enjoy the moment between Meridith and Addison.

HIMYM is one of my fave shows. I love me some Barney! In the first eppy when he talked about B-Pegs! LMAO!

I saw the first eppy of VM, and I'm hoping it starts getting back into the ole groove . . .

BTW, did you know Eureka renewed?! It is such a fun show.

Hey Cptn. Oats,
Talk about crazy. Grey's is truly my Thursday night of intense viewing--the outside world just has to wait (at least until the commercials to have my attention anyways).

You're seeing the OC? Good luck with that! Keep up the work!

Aw, you don't like the new VM credits? I think they fit the show a little better than the old ones did - a little moodier, more noir-ish. I am enjoying the season so far (at least, much better than last season), except that there hasn't been any really good music lately.

Anyway, thanks for the music!

man- I must be a VM junkie cause I am totally on board this season- my only complaint so far is how weak the Keith stuff has been, but I'm very happy about the gang at college so far AND I dig the new take on the theme song.

Sorry you guys aren't enjoying it more...

If you have some free time and/or completely lose faith in Veronica Mars would you consider watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and featuring its music? Last night they featured some songs by Sting, and the music from the last few episodes has been awesome.

hey megan, i loved all the peanuts specials too! people who don't probably suck and hate puppies and babies..

hi anon, xoxo right back at ya.

hey jessica, man that kate havnevik song is proving to be a bitch to find, ain't it? i don't think she's released it yet.. sucks. the OC eps are really really awesome.. i'll definitely have a portion that's non-spoiler, as i personally hate stumbling upon spoilers too.. will be posting this weekend, stay tuned! (oh and the song you're thinking of is probably Placebo's cover of "Running Up That Hill".. and i'll be posting that too)

Hey Anon and lalala, I think I'm taking Rob Thomas off my 'want to grow up to be like" list.. last night's (10/17) episode was unwatchable. i actually stopped it midway through... so sad. I shall try out What About Brian and Desperate Housewives next week.. and I'm coming after you two if they suck. =)

Oh and lalala, last season was the OC's worst season. Few good eps, scattered moments of goodness, but generally, no I wasn't thrilled. So when I say this season's gonna be good.. I'm talking Season One good!

Hi Anon, I had the same worry about the Office and the Kiss. Thank the Lord the show has an awesome showrunner. And no, Friday Nights Light is not for me.. and it's definitely the next to get canceled. Oh wait, no, Kidnapped is.

Hey Andrea, you're liking VM? Say it ain't so. I just couldn't stand last night's episode.. I actually haven't been able to finish it yet. First time that's ever happened with VM...

Hey Drew, you have excellent taste. I also appreciate the blatant pimping of one's own site. We are kindred spirits.

Hey Anon, how funny has this week's HIMYM? Glad Barney's story was front and center...

Hi Anon, that is random that you keep getting the Korean eps. I'm glad you JOH-AH-HEH the blog. GEH-SOK, IR-GUH please. =) My Konglish sucks.

Hey Krissi, I did hear Eureka got renewed! Hurrah! I haven't watched much of season one... but as a former SCI FI employee, I gotta root for it!

Hey Anon, Thursday night is my night of solace too. =)

Hey Jayne, I love the way the new credits look.. you're right, very much more in line with noir.. but the song? They BUTCHERED it! Ruthless I say!

Haydude, you are a true VM junkie. And I respect that.

Hi Kavina, unicorns are overrated. They poop everywhere. And it's pretty much over when they start humping your leg.. stay tuned for the OC post!

Hi Anon, you're welcome!

Hey Katie and ender, I actually have been watching Studio 60.. I don't like it, but I keep watching for some reason... I'm still sticking with my take in this post:
http://sillypipedreams.blogspot.com/2006/09/season-passes.html

But since you asked, I shall post Studio 60 songs next week. I'm a giver. =)

Where's the OC stuff? Did you read Ausiello's report from TV GUIDE:

Question: Please tell me you were just joking around when you said Ryan and Taylor are gonna pair up on The O.C.! That would be gruesome.— Ricarda

Ausiello: I think you'll be changing your tune when you see the two of them together. They're thisclose to edging out J.D. and Turk as my favorite tube couple. Their little flirtation begins in the fourth episode, which, I have to say, is one of my favorite O.C. hours ever. I especially loved the opening sequence, which chronicles Summer as she powers through the five stages of grief. It's unlike anything the show has attempted before, and I don't think I'm overselling it when I say it's a triumph of writing, directing and music. It's ingenious. After watching the first four episodes over the weekend, I really think you guys are gonna fall back in love with The O.C. this season. The writing seems tighter, crisper, funnier. And the best news of all: tons more screen time for the underrated Melinda Clarke. If I thought it'd do any good, I'd start an Emmy campaign for her. But let's be real: It'd do absolutely no good.

Hey Sonny.
I'm concerned about the fate of VM if even the most die-hard fans like ourselves are seriously disappointed this year. What is up with that?????
I'll take your word on The OC this year. Wasn't planning to watch bcs last year sucked so bad. But I trust your opinion. :)

Guess that makes me a VM junkie, too. I will give you this: I agree that this week's ep was definitely the weakest of the season thus far, but hardly the worst of the series (I'd probably hand that title to "One Angry Veronica" from last season or "Drinking the Kool-aid" from season one, both of which had the same writer. Coincidence? Ha.). But me being the VM junkie I am, I still consider the worst episodes of VM to be better than just about anything else on TV. At least, drama-wise. And excluding HBO. I do miss the great music this season so far though, but Rob Thomas said in a recent interview that music is the first place the networks go to cut when looking to save money. :(

One comment, me and my friends always thought Rider Strong had the best porn name EVER.

not only do we get Ryder Strong (WHO by the by, went to college at Columbia with me...It was so bizarre-o because I really felt like I had grown up with him having watched Boy Meets World for so many years...and seeing him at the library was like seeing an old friend)-- BUT, we also get that cutie from Life As We Know It (great GREAT show) AND one of the geeks from Freaks and Geeks.

How I Met Your Mother is totally consistantly cute.

The Office? Just keeps getting better and better. LOVING it. Wetting my pants and loving it.
