Musical Monday

Eitan and Jacquelyn's Wedding ReceptionGotta keep this short, but I'm gonna have to hold off on the OC post til tomorrow Wednesday. I know, another broken promise. No, I'd never put work above you. Baby, please don't leave. Let me make it up with a nice dinner.. we can even watch Meet Joe Black afterwards. Awwe, come here. See, I love you. We good? Yeah? Good... so... can I get a quickie?

My TV thoughts this week:
GREAT HIMYM, the man-date idea has been recycled so many times, but they did a hilarious job. Haven't seen this week's Heroes, but I hear good things. Again, I watched Studio 60, and I still don't like it, hope it gets cancelled soon. Veronica Mars was at its worst ever, the only redeeming factor was its Guitar Hero reference. Haven't seen this week's Lost, please don't spoil. Stopped watching Ugly Betty, sorry, just not doing it for me. Grey's was solid as usual. And the last five minutes of The Office were ridiculously cute. Random side note, my agent's assistant got married this weekend (congrats J!). At the wedding reception, my friend Amber, and my writing partner and I, got to talk to Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak of the Office (we all share the same agent, and yes, this is me gloating). They were very nice and down to earth, even politely pretending to laugh at my nervous "jokes". More power to them.

Alrighty, music's kinda weak today, but here are the tunes:

How I Met Your Mother - "World's Greatest Couple"
"Fernando" - ABBA [buy album]
*pretty hilarious use of this song

"Faster Kill Pussycat" - Paul Oakenfold (feat. Brittany Murphy) [buy album]
"Under Pressure" - Queen & David Bowie [buy album]

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - "The Focus Group"
"Alguem" - Ananda Project
"Sem Contencao" - Bebel Gilberto [buy album]
"Throw It All Away" - Zero 7 [buy album]
"Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" - Dave Mason (covering the Shirelles) [buy album]

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - "The West Coast Delay"
"New Shoes" - Paolo Nutini [buy album]

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - "The Long Lead Story"
"Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight" - Amos Lee [buy album]
"Come Again" - Sting [buy album]

Hey now, if you're implying that Meet Joe Black, aside from being a delicate and profound exposition on the nature of life and relationships, is anything other than one of the best movies of all time, then you and I may have to have words later... :)

Ooh, thanks for the tunes, as always.

I'm sorry you dropped Ugly Betty - the last episode was far and away the best one, I thought.

And gloat all you want. That's pretty gloat-worthy!

Thats so awesome you got to meet them!
And thanks for making my Monday a little better as I head off to Tax Law :/

Oh and yeah I keep watching Studio 60 because Ive some how convinced myself I can will it to be good... but it may be time to throw in the towel and just put the first couple seasons of West Wing on my netflix to relive the Aaron Sorkin glory days.

Right on about S60

Problems with Veronica Mars:

a) new theme song
b) Wallace's annoying new roomate Piz. I hope Logan shoots a flaming arrow into his chest.
c) the editor to that newspaper. The one who tells Veronica about that hidden room. I've worked at a college newspaper before and I promise you, nobody acts like that.

Hi Cap't,

Thanks for the tunes, as always! I'm sending you the Zapp and Roger tune you're missing . . . Can't find the other three (yet).

Any chance you, or any of the posters might know what song played at the beginning of Ugly Betty this past week? You don't have to post it, I'm just looking for a title and artist. "Anybody, anybody . . ." Yeah, I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

It's so cool you got to meet Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak . . . I have to admit, I'd be gloating a bit, too!!

BTW, I'm with you, Mary! LOL!

thanks (as always) for the tunes.

I think Cali/the biz has made you far too critical of some of these shows. Yes Veronica Mars is not in the same league as it was in season 1 but "at its worst?" I must protest!

Studio 60 is a great show -- true it's not "going anywhere" but what about the Godforsaken L&O franchise -- when was the last time those "went anywhere" and they are looking at season # 34,758,295,638,534

Ah, thank you for the cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" from Studio 60. I was going crazy trying to figure out who it was.

Ok, I admit that so far VM isn't as good as the last two seasons, but I thought this episode showed potential, especially with the Weevil and Keith scenes! I'm sure it'll return back to its original glory...once the ratings improve. Thanks for the music, Grey's seriously has the best music on television; that title was once held by VM, but their music has been pretty average lately!

Thanks for the Studio 60 tunes!

I'm also looking forward to the VMars comeback, especially now that Weevil appears to be V's new Wallace, as far as an inside man goes.

I'd like to second the Piz-and-a-flaming-dart motion...

Hey, Captain Oats,

Thanks for the tunes. I've been loving Grey's in terms of the show, but not loving the tunes they've been choosing as much as last season. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, just wondering...how are you finding L.A. now that you're a permanent resident? Does it live up to the hype? I have to say I've never had a desire to live in southern CA, as my self-esteem can't afford the big hit of living in a land where appearance matters above all else. I guess that's why I'm in social work- people with health issues, drug addiction, and mental health disorders don't really care if I just hit the tanning bed or not. :)

Hey Moley, Rock I shall.

Hey gorgeous, I was merely implying that there is nothing I'd rather do than sit and watch Meet Joe Black with you after taking you out to a nice dinner? =)

Hi Kate L, you're welcome.. hmm maybe I'll check out the last episode, give it one more chance.

Hey Megan, Tax Law on a Monday? Ouch. Very ouch. Glad I could make it a little better...

Hi Anon, really making me want to write that OC post.

Hey Mo, agree with all of the problems you mentioned.. and I could probably add d) through m).

Hi Krissi, thanks for the emails! I believe the Three 6 Mafia tune is working.. let me know if you have any more problems.

Hey Kevin, I don't think I'm being too critical, I mean I love HIMYM even more than I did last year, loving the Office, Lost is way better, even enjoying New Adventures of Old Christine.. but other shows are just sucking. Doesn't mean I'm giving up on them, just calling it like I see it. With VM, if this past week's episode wasn't at least one of the worst of the past two seasons, which one is? And with Studio 60, the fact that it's not "going anywhere" is def not a reason I don't like the show... Curb Your Enthusiasm doesn't "go anywhere".. Freaks and Geeks never "went anywhere"... the reason I don't like Studio 60 is that it's a big pretentious jerk off session for Sorkin.. it's like a weekly ego stroke for him.. and it's taking over so much of the show's tone, it's becoming less and less enjoyable to watch. It had potential, but failed to capture it. And for a show about comedy, I've yet to chuckle once.

Hi Lauren, you're welcome.

Hey Laura, I think VM will make a comeback as well. I know RT is great at the overarching season arcs, so I trust that at the very least the last few episodes of the season will rock. But that being said, gotta call out the bad eps as we see them... and I agree, VM's music has been eh lately.. most likely due to their limited budget. Grey's is able to get any songs and as many songs as they want because they are the number one TV show in America...

Hi Katie, you're welcome. Is it just me or does Weevil look a little weird this season?

Hey Heather O, I do find America Ferrera impressive.. in fact, I almost rented Sisterhood of the Traveling- no, no I didn't.

Hey anon, you're welcome.

Hi joyfulgirl2, you're welcome and thank you for asking. I really hated LA when I first moved out here, but I like it more and more everyday. The things I think most people hate are, as you mentioned, the attitude and the people. Lot of douches. But you find similar people after a bit, and you start to avoid the douches, and LA can be quite enjoyable... I live 10 min from the beach, I love hiking in Runyon Canyon, there are some really great, laid-back dive bars that bring a good crowd, tons of free screenings... honestly, as you prolly can tell from this blog, my self-esteem tries to commit suicide on a daily basis, so if I can do it, anyone can. Like most major cities, LA can be a great place to live if you give it a chance, and there are good people here.. but like seriously, omg, what is that girl wearing?

Hi Mel, you're welcome.

Hi Cap't,

Hope the tunes are postable. Me loves to help you cuz you're so good to us!

The Three 6 Mafia link's working fine now. Maybe I need more patience.

I just can't get into Studio 60. I tried; I really, really tried, but like you, I just found it to be a snore. My friend, however, loves it. Life would just be oo boring if we all loved or hated the same music, TV shows, etc.!

C'ya!!

Hey~ Good music this week. When I played Fidelity, I was like... 'Where have I heard this song before?'

Which is when I realized that it was on Veronica Mars. I had already forgotten it was listed under a show that I actually watch. Hee. Sometimes, my memory is just...

keep rocking the free world.

[yep, that was lame, just didn't know how to close it out. *shrug*]

Hey Capt'n Oats,
I hear you on VM, still a favorite but not a OMG MUST WATCH NOW fav. For me that's Heroes this year. I just kept hoping last season VM would pull it out in the end, but not so much. And Weevil is looking like he went a touch Lil' Kim in prison. But I hope for V's sake he planted a camera in the dean's AC vent.

Wow ... gotta totally disagree with you about GA and VM. I thought VM 3.03 was GREAT this week (fab music to boot! the last couple weeks have musically sucked.) and SO MUCH better than last week.

GA on the other hand was totally ridiculous, the writing was sloppy and frankly, unmemorable.

Anyway, thanks for the tunes!
