Tunerrific Tuesday

The rundown...

How I Met Your Mother - "Arrivederci, Fiero" (B-)
I thought this episode was pretty weak. I'm also still peeved from last week's episode when Robin actually gave away the dogs! Wtf. I was hoping this episode would pick up with Ted and Robin getting the dogs back. Unfortunately, there was no continuation in story whatsoever. Actually, there really wasn't any story at all in this ep, at least not in the present tense. They're really going overboard with the flashbacks, and I'm not a fan. Still some funny moments though...

COLLEGE TED: "My parents live in Ohio; I live in the moment..."

The Class - "The Class Rides A Bull" (B)
A bit heavy on the relational drama, and a little weak on the laughs this week. Nonetheless, this'll be the second or third time in a row now that I've enjoyed this show more than HIMYM. Duncan still needs to cut his hair though. For serious.

The Black Donnellys - "Pilot"
I haven't watched yet, but you can watch it online.

Veronica Mars - "Mars, Bars"
Haven't caught up yet, I'm actually two episodes behind. But in the meantime, here's a cute behind-the-scenes video of Kristen Bell & Chris Lowell. P.S. I still hate Piz.

Friday Night Lights - "I Think We Should Have Sex" (A)
Another amazing episode. FYI, if there were a show based on my own high school years, every episode would be titled, "I Think We Should Have Sex." The topic of sex in high school has been covered a million times over, but this episode still somehow felt original and refreshing. I love the innocence of Matt and Julie. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton both deserve Emmys. And though I'm still interested in Jason Street's storyline, I really do hope they bring him back into the mix with the other characters soon. Not a fan of tattoo girl.

The Office - "Cocktails" (B)
I though this episode was average. Roy's rage blackout at the end there was unexpected and unsettling, but I liked it. Some of my favorite lines...

JAN: "I am taking a calculated risk. What's the upside? I overcome my nausea, fall deeply in love, babies, normalcy, no more self-loathing. Downside, I date Michael Scott publicly and collapse into myself like a dying star."

JAN: "Why is this so hard? That's what she said. Oh my god. What am I saying?"

MICHAEL: Here's to Mr. Iacocca, and his failed experiment, the DeLorean.

Also, check out Rainn Wilson on SNL this past weekend:

While you're at it, check out Arcade Fire too. New album is delicious.

Scrubs - "My Therapeutic Month" (B)
This episode was much, MUCH better than the previous few. Hopefully, this trend continues. Lloyd's air-drumming to speed metal cracked me up. You can watch the episode here.

30 Rock - "Hard Ball" (B+)
Again, this show made me LOL the most this past week. The best one-liners on television right now. Unfortunately, while the show continues to rock, the ratings continue to drop with every episode. This past week was its lowest yet. Thanks a lot, Grey's. Seriously people, just watch Grey's on Friday or online. Some of my favorite lines from this past week...

JACK: "Lemon, what happened in your childhood to make you believe people are good?"

LIZ: "Hey, would Sharon Stone worry about that? Would Richard Gere?"
JENNA: "No."

JACK: "The worm, that's so degrading. Are its origins German?"

JACK: "The crab is getting aroused. Shut it down. Shut it down."

TRACY (yelling at the tv): "TV on! Pornography!"

Oh, and Jane Krakowski looked hot at her Maxim shoot.

Grey's Anatomy - "Some Kind of Miracle" (B)
Over-the-top, at times annoying, at times cringe-worthy, yet somehow, I found myself choking up a bit during the episode. And I guess that's also Grey's Anatomy as a whole in a nutshell. I have a lot of complaints, but I still watch, and I'm still entertained.

I enjoyed seeing Denny and Dylan/Coach Taylor/Watch Friday Night Lights. But Monica Keena's character (loved her on Undeclared fyi) was a bit much. I actually started laughing the second time she started bleeding.

The best part of the episode, and the part where I got a bit teary, was when Cristina stood at Meredith's feet. Well done, Sandra Oh.

How do you all feel about the Addison spinoff show? Taye Diggs is apparently lined up. I'm kind of dreading it.

The O.C. - "The End's Not Near, It's Here" (B)
We've already said our goodbyes, but I forgot to ask, where was Mr. Roberts during the wedding scene? Did he die in the ferry accident up at Seattle Grace? Way to go, Grey's.

The 79th Annual Academy Awards (B)
Well, I didn't do so hot with my Oscar predictions. Got 5/6 of the main categories correct, but went a dismal 12/24 overall. Everyone's talking about how boring the Oscars were this year, but honestly, I enjoyed them. Our Oscar get-together TiVoed it and started a little later so we could fast forward through the boring parts, I highly recommend this. Ellen wasn't bust-your-side hilarious, but I found her really endearing. The sound effects choir was amazing, and I loved the shadow dancers. When they formed into a gun and shot a bullet, I so freaked. Best part of the show:

I'm curious about the Addison pilot! I'll definitely watch it. I read the link and, I don't know about you, but I'm not having a hard time keeping track of the stories! I'll be sad to see her go if she leaves.

You were one of the reasons why I started watching FNL. Thank you! It's a really good show. (Of course my watching it isn't helping the ratings since I don't live in The US but still...)

If Addison leaves I will cry. Seriously. Just hearing the news last week made me cry. It's a really bad idea.

Hmm, I think the link for "The Lake" isn't working quite right. This works though: http://sillypipedreams.net/mp3/tunerrifictuesday/07%20The%20Lake.mp3

I don't think I'd watch a Grey's spinoff, but I'm really hoping Addison doesn't leave.

Thanks so much!

Greys: Seeing as Addison is my favorite thing about Grey's these days I'm not exactly happy about her potentially leaving the show.
Oh and I agree... the scene with Christina was really great and I totally choked up too (despite being less than thrilled with these last couple of episodes).

FNL: I freaking love the Taylor family! Seroiusly, I want to be adopted by them. (which is weird since Im 24.) And I thought Connie Britton in particular was amazing in that scene where she was talking to Julie about having sex. She had me all emotional and shizz.

30 Rock: Hillarious! I wish I had a Nielsen box so that my watching it would actually do something for its ratings because I would hate to see this show go the way of Arrested Development.

The Oscars: Ellen is just so damn likeable. I actually felt nervous for her as the show was starting because I so wanted her to be good. I thought her bits interacting with the audience were the best.

Oh and my favorite part of the whole show: "Mark Wahlberg, where are you?! I won't mess with you; you're actually kind of badass."

This is from a week or so ago, but you have gotten me totally hooked on Kelley McRae. I tracked down her album the day I downloaded "Johnny Cash" and I freaking adore it. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for sharing her. She's amazing.

Thanks For The Tunes!!!

I felt the same way about Greys' ...I was a bit nervous that they were getting off track and going down a sappy whacked road. But the show redeemed itself with a few good moments like the one you mentioned with Sandra Oh. I teared up...so I'm still hooked.

And is anyone else watching Knights of Prosperity?? THAT show has the best one-liners....plot is so crazy its not even relevant...it's all about the dialogue...and some physical comedy.

Thanks so much for the grey's music!! I too am desperately hoping that they nix the Addison spin off idea. The show only works becuase of the interactions between these specific characters. I just don't think it will translate to a new show with new characters. Plus I'll miss her too much from the original!

As always, thanks for the tunes. I agree that the Oscars were entertaining. Not sure why they're getting slammed.

Hi, should mention that I heart you and your blog. Am an avid reader. I only check like 5 sites a week, and you are one of them... That probably sounds really sad on my part, huh?

Anywho, I hate the idea of a Addison spinoff. What's wrong with keeping her on Grey's? She'd probably be a stronger character. I like Addison, but I don't like her enough to watch her obsessively like I watch Greys.

Snagging Grey's music, thanks!
Also, am tempted to check out Friday Night Lights per your recommendation.

Watch HEROES from this week and give feedback! It actually made me tear up a bit =)

1. addison is my most favorite character on grey's. she can't leave. she can't! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. is it horrible that i was hoping meredith would die, addison would take over, and THAT"S what they meant by the whole spin-off thing?

2. rainn wilson's monologue was hilarious. our med school did a parody on the office: check it out when you're bored...our michael scott is pretty awesome. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wZRTUGxXlBU

3. also watched the class for the first time ever this week and was pleasantly surprised. :)

Hey Cap't!

Great posts (don't you get sick of hearing me tell you that all the time), and I loved the tunage.

I wrote my little heart out last Tuesday, so I just don't have much to add other than I did like the afterlife Grey's eppy. I must agree, though, Monica Keena's character was a bit much! And when Cristine said that Meredith was her person at the end, standing at her feet, well, that just did me in. Sandra Oh is a marvel.

I'm not sure I want a Addison spinoff. I like her character, but I like her on Grey's -- selfish of me, yes?! Besides, I really wanted the "Denny" show to get going, and now it'll go on the back burner from what I've read. Boo! Hiss!

Thanks again, Cap't. Oh, I sent you the complete version of the I Am Jen tune from last week. Thought you might like it and/or want to post it in place of the partial you have up now.

Later! :-)

Hey there,
I think an Addison spinoff could be great, and maybe Taye Diggs will FINALLY get a big, break-out role. I know, Kevin Hill, blah blah blah but obviously no one watched that. And Day Break? Riiiight. I could always use more Taye Diggs in my life, so count me in. Although I am now worried about Callie O'Malley - who will get her back against Izzie once Addie leaves?
And this is a random question, but you usually discuss quality shows here - what are your guilty pleasures? I ask because I caught myself watching the finale of Beauty and the Geek, then this week's Grease, before I got around to watching Heroes. Which was an incredible ep, no doubt, but sometimes you need that cracked-out reality TV fix. Just me?
Thanks for the music, as always!
Cheers,
NYOne
