Get Happy!!

Just found out via Pop Candy that Elvis Costello has a free podcast series on iTunes called "The First 10 Years" (to help promote his new compilation -- The Best of Elvis Costello: The First 10 Years).

For those of you who don't know, Mr. Declan MacManus is my favorite performer of all-time. Thus, I had to pass along the news.

So go download the first three podcasts, "Pump It Up," and listen to this great songwriter reflect on the first 10 years of his career.

Lastly, I will leave you with one of my favorite Costello tracks:
"I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" - Elvis Costello" [buy album]

Leave a comment with your favorite Costello song and/or a general hello, why the hell aren't you blogging more!

Hello! Why the hell aren't you blogging more? ;-)

I have to admit that I've never really gotten into Elvis Costello, though I haven't given it that much effort either. The voice is...challenging for me to get past. That being said, I do trust your taste Cap'n and am going to try a few more EC tunes out. Meanwhile, Veronica is one of my favorite songs of all time, and that was true even before Britt Daniel's karaoke version on Veronica Mars.

Hello, sir.

I should probably up my Elvis Costello vocabulary. I've always liked him but never made the effort to really know his music. Any CD suggestions for a neophyte?

Until I learn more, my favorite is still "God Give Me Strength." Did you see Grace of my Heart yet?

Also, I don't worry about the blogging thing. It's like my mom says, "If you're not calling me, you're probably doing fine." Meaning, since you're not blogging, I'm assuming you're leading an exciting life . . . which you will blog about at some point with a fabulously appropriate soundtrack.

Oh, how I love Costello music. [also the Fratellis album titled as such.]

'Radio Sweetheart' is an obscure but very well-written Costello song I've always loved - I recommend giving that a listen, for sure.

Faster-paced Costello songs first...'Watching The Detectives' was a favorite growing up so I'd have to put that near the top of my list. Fun one and lyrically very amusing. ;)

I enjoy quite a few of Costello's slower-paced tunes. 'She', however, tops my list, uncontested.

She may be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for
Through the rough and ready years
Me, I'll take her laughter & her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes, I've got to be
The meaning of my life is she...

I'm done ranting. =]

Sonny, you are now down as being in a relationship on Facebook. Tell us all about it! I want to know that you are happy, and you have such a lovely way of writing -it brightens up my otherwise dull and tiresome day.

Zup! Why aren't you blogging mas? Mmm. Favorite Costello. Probably 'Mystery Dance'because I vote yes on horny teen anthems. And "This Is Hell" because as an Angry Young Teen, I find myself humming it quite a bit.

Hey NYOne,
=) I'm.. solving the Middle East crisis? I really no good excuse other than laziness. Must change this!

Yeah it's tricky to get into Costello because he has so many albums covering such a wide range of genres. But if you love "Veronica," I promise there's more of that goodness in his catalogue!

Hey Marko,
I will do my best to keep you better company!

Hi Vanessa,
Great song. Greater album. Absolutely love "King of America."

Hi Jonathan,
Yes, I really should.

Hello sunshine,
Hmm.. he really covers so many genres in so many albums that I would honestly suggest a Best Of compilation to start. But there are a lot to choose from there too... there's a really good two-disc "Very Best Of.." album that has a green cover that I would recommend.

And "Grace Of My Heart" is still sadly in my Netflix queue.

Hi Sam,
You're dead to me. Jk. Yeah, I know quite a few people that feel the same. And they are all dead to me. =)

Hey Laura.,
I love the Fratellis album too!

"Watching the Detectives" is definitely one of the Costello classics. Have you heard his weird, jazzy album that he came out with last year? I believe he does a jazz version of the song.

I do love "She," but in terms of his slower songs, I have to give it up for either "I Want to Vanish" or "Favourite Hour" as my top fav.

I'm done ranting now too. =)

Hi Anon 1:57,
Haha.. yeah, I may talk about the relationship someday. But not at the moment. Someday though for sure. And it is quite the story. Tease.

Hello Friday the 13th DVD,
Thank you?

Hi Shelby,
Unique and great Costello choices! Horny teen anthems are the wonderful and for me, still very relevant.

Hey Anon 10:48,
Will do, I love you loving my blog!
