Big Time

Hi friends. A little writing career update.

While my writing partner and I haven't hit the "big time" per se, we have started a writing gig on MTV's Rob & Big! Our official title is "creative consultant", which is just an excuse for alliteration, and a fancy way of saying that we come up with show ideas and beats with the producers.

If you've never watched the show before, definitely add it to your DVR Season Pass. It's a refreshing change from MTV's other reality content, and it plays more like an improv comedy. If I had to point you to one staple episode, it'd be the one where Big Black decides to strip under the stage name, "Black Lavender".

You can catch old episodes and clips on MTV's site, on YouTube, or On Demand through your local cable provider. MTV also reruns the show quite a bit. Spread the word!!

Also, my writing partner and I have been hired to write an original horror movie for SCI FI Channel, which will hopefully air sometime next year.

We have some other projects in the works, and I'll definitely let you know more when/if they are done deals! Hope you all are swell, leave a comment!

Conchords Take Flight Into Space Oddity

Did you guys watch this past episode of Flight of the Conchords? The Bowie dream sequences were brilliant. Here they are for those of you without HBO, make sure to watch the last one with the Bowie music video parody/homage:

Also, I posted some Bowie covers a while back, but since we're on the topic again, here are some more for your listening pleasure:

"Oh! You Pretty Things" - Harvey Danger (David Bowie cover) [buy album]
"Five Years (live)" - Placebo (David Bowie cover)
"Cat People (Putting Out The Fire)" - Gosling (David Bowie cover) [buy album]

Let me know what you think and how you are doing. Is mom doing well? Leave a comment!

Penises And Food

Last Friday, some co-workers and I went to a restaurant in Venice for lunch. It was on the company dime, so I was reading the menu more intently than usual, wanting to get the most out of someone else's buck. Hmm, chicken wrap sounds good. Let's see what's in it...

"Chicken Breast..." Love chicken, love breasts, sounds tasty.
"Avocado and Tomato..." Yes, and yes.
"With Cummin-Yogurt Sauce." Um, what? Cummin-yogurt sauce?

Wait, no, I'm sorry. That's not quite what I was in the mood for... I'd like some of your seared tuna covered in jizz-tartar gravy please. Or actually, could I try the tossed Greek salad with a side of extra virgin man-juice mayonnaise? Seriously, there's gotta be a more appetizing way to describe that chicken wrap! Anyway, later, I checked Wikipedia, which informed me that it's a type of spice called cumin that is often misspelled cummin. So, now I know. And knowing is half the battle. Then, I closed the browser, opened up some porn, and made me some real, home-made.. hey-oh!

Wow, sorry about that. Uh, but speaking of penises and food (smooth transition)...

Patton Oswalt. The dude loves to talk about both. This made me laugh last week:

If you haven't before, definitely check out his stand-up. Also check out his other appearance on Conan:

And since we love laughter on our iPods as well, here are two tracks from his new album, Werewolves And Lollipops, purchase via the links below:
"America Has Spoken" - Patton Oswalt [buy album]
"Great Food Is Cooked By Psychos" - Patton Oswalt [buy album]

He's also the voice of Remy, the rat in Ratatouille, which I have not seen yet, because I was too busy wasting my money on Transformers. Next post: Summer Movie Reviews.. which will include my review of the much-anticipated comedy, Superbad (p.s. while we're mentioning late night apperances, check out Michael Cera on Letterman).

Hope everyone has a good Monday, leave a comment!

Get Happy!!

Just found out via Pop Candy that Elvis Costello has a free podcast series on iTunes called "The First 10 Years" (to help promote his new compilation -- The Best of Elvis Costello: The First 10 Years).

For those of you who don't know, Mr. Declan MacManus is my favorite performer of all-time. Thus, I had to pass along the news.

So go download the first three podcasts, "Pump It Up," and listen to this great songwriter reflect on the first 10 years of his career.

Lastly, I will leave you with one of my favorite Costello tracks:
"I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" - Elvis Costello" [buy album]

Leave a comment with your favorite Costello song and/or a general hello, why the hell aren't you blogging more!
